Ryan Hughes, head of active portfolios at AJ Bell, comments:
“With ISA season in full swing it is interesting to see that the most popular investments have a clear leaning away from the UK towards global strategies. Only Jupiter UK Special Situations and Lindsell Train UK Equity out of the funds have a pure UK investment strategy, along with Finsbury Growth & Income and City of London from the most purchased investment trusts.
“In terms of funds, many investors are looking for multi-asset investment solutions, with our own passive range and the Vanguard Lifestrategy funds proving popular. The beauty of these options is that they give very diversified exposure, aligned with a specific risk level and are often purchased as core holdings within portfolios. The Fidelity Index World fund also plays a similar role as a core holding, although it is a pure equity fund rather than multi-asset.
“The cult of the star manager can also be seen with the ever popular Terry Smith featuring in both the fund and investment trust top 10, as do Nick Train and Michael Lindsell via their Global and UK equity funds, and the Finsbury Growth & Income trust.”
