As the Coronation weekend approaches, AJ Bell stock market analyst Dan Coatsworth looks at five companies that could get a boost from the historic occasion:
PORTMEIRION
“Ceramics group Portmeirion lives for big events involving the royal family as they are money-makers. It has wasted no time in creating a collection of Coronation-themed products, ranging from plates and teapots to bowls and jugs. These items could have pride of place in homes across not just the UK but also abroad as the company has an active customer base in places like North America and Asia.”
MARKS & SPENCER
“The nation will be in a celebratory mood for the Coronation, with lots of people planning to have friends and family in the garden or hold a street party. Where else to stock up on bunting, picnic food and a new dress or shirt than Marks & Spencer? From fancy sausage rolls to bottles of prosecco, M&S has it all and its reputation for higher quality products could see it become a popular choice for those hoping to toast King Charles over the long weekend. Coronation chicken is certainly going to be on the menu!”
FEVERTREE
“‘Fancy another G&T?’ The clink of glasses always brings a smile to the face and a refreshing gin and tonic is going to be a popular choice as individuals join in the celebrations. If you are going to enjoy a gin, why ruin it with cheap tonic? That’s the key premise behind Fevertree’s business strategy and it has been successful in positioning itself as the posh tonic to accompany a quality gin. Its brand is well-known across the UK and that will work to its advantage as revellers stock up for the Coronation.”
FULLER’S
“Fuller, Smith & Turner could get a double hit of good news from the Coronation. Many of its pubs are located in and around London, making it a natural place for thirsty revellers to visit if they descend on the Capital for King Charles’ big event. The bonus bank holiday means we also get an extra day off work and if the sun is shining then punters will be visiting pub gardens in their droves, looking to keep the party spirit rocking across the three-day weekend.”
WHITBREAD
“The Coronation is going to dominate the agenda for news channels around the world, creating a tourism advert for the UK. While Whitbread may not see an immediate benefit to earnings, the Coronation could make the UK a more attractive holiday destination over the coming months and its Premier Inn outlets are omnipresent. Whitbread’s hotel chain is an affordable choice for both domestic and foreign tourists.”
